Forefront Security for Exchange SP2 RU2


For people running ForeFront Security for Exchange SP2, Rollup 2 was released.

The related knowledgebase article kb2270641 mentions the following additional fixes:

  1. The FSCTransportScanner.exe process in Forefront Server Security for Exchange may stop responding, and this generates a Dr. Watson crash that references Bucket ID 1211603866
  2. The FSECCRService.exe process in Forefront Server Security for Exchange may stop responding, and this generates a Dr. Watson crash that references Bucket ID 1076269539
  3. Forefront Server Security for Exchange fails to write a crypto checkpoint in the RSA\Machine Keys folder
  4. The FSCController.exe process in Forefront Server Security for Exchange may stop responding, and this generates a Dr. Watson crash that references Bucket ID 1229588505
  5. The Forefront Security for Exchange GetEngineFile process crashes and Forefront is unable to perform a scan engine update
  6. Kaspersky scan engine in Forefront Security for Exchange does not update on a CCR cluster
  7. Forefront Security for Exchange does not install on Windows Server 2008 R2
  8. Forefront Security for Exchange now supports the Kaspersky 8 engine

Microsoft Forefront Protection 2010 for Exchange Rollup 1


Microsoft released Hotfix Rollup 1 for Forefront Protection 2010 for Exchange Server (KB2181692).

Here’s the list of fixes included in this rollup:

  1. There is a handle leak in FSCController when SQM is uploading data in Microsoft Forefront Protection for Exchange
  2. A Forefront Protection for Exchange scan engine update fails and generates Application Log errors
  3. Forefront Protection for Exchange replacing legitimate attachments with text files and quarantining legitimate mail
  4. Proxy credentials and UNC path settings for Forefront Protection for Exchange do not replicate to passive node during cluster failover
  5. Forefront Protection for Exchange is blocking all incoming mail
  6. A system state backup fails while attempting to perform anything other than a full backup on a server running Forefront Protection for Exchange
  7. Forefront Protection for Exchange filters email with attached .MSG files that contain a subject line ending with a file extension
  8. The Forefront Protection for Exchange client crashes when adding an IP address, or range, to either the IP Allow/Block List
  9. Forefront Protection for Exchange sends legitimate email to Exchange’s UNDELIVERABLE folder
  10. Store slows down and RPC request queue length rises when Forefront Protection for Exchange is running on Windows 2003 64-bit server
  11. FSCUtility fails if run on a non clustered server that the cluster service is installed but disabled on

Exchange 2010 RTM Rollup 4


Microsoft released Rollup 4 for Exchange Server 2010 RTM (KB982639). This update raises Exchange 2010 version number to 14.0.702.1.

Here’s the list of changes included in this rollup:

  • 979342 An attachment is not visible when an Exchange Server 2010 user opens a signed mail message by using Outlook 2003
  • 979517 You cannot send a message to a Dynamic Distribution Group in a mixed Exchange Server 2007 and Exchange Server 2010 environment
  • 979790 An IMAP4 client crashes when accessing an Exchange Server 2010 mailbox
  • 979801 An error message is generated in Exchange Server 2010 when you use Exchange Troubleshooting Assistant
  • 979810 You cannot connect an Exchange Server 2010 mailbox by using a MAPI client
  • 979848 Event ID 1066 is logged and you cannot move a mailbox from an Exchange Server 2003 server to an Exchange Server 2010 server
  • 979862 Event ID 4999 and Event ID 7031 are logged when you move a mailbox to an Exchange Server 2010 server
  • 979921 You cannot replicate a public folder from one Microsoft Exchange Server 2010 server to another, and Event ID 3079 is logged on the target server
  • 980149 The Add-MailboxDatabaseCopy command fails when it is used to add a database copy to a Database Availability Group in an Exchange Server 2010 environment
  • 980353 A MAPI application that is used to access Exchange Server 2010 mailboxes crashes when the application accesses an address book
  • 980354 “MAPI_E_INVALID_PARAMETER” error message when you copy email messages from an Exchange Server 2010 mailbox
  • 980364 Microsoft Exchange Transport service on an Exchange Server 2010 server crashes when a certain message is processed
  • 980701 An Exchange Server 2010 mailbox user receives a NDR error message when the user sends an email message to multiple internal users
  • 980852 The RpcClientAccess process on an Exchange Server 2010 server crashes when you access a mailbox by using a MAPI application
  • 981033 Error message when you expand the Microsoft Exchange On-Premises node in the EMC of Exchange Server 2010
  • 981961 Event ID 4033 is logged and the Free/Busy replication from an Exchange Server 2003 server to an Exchange Server 2010 server fails
  • 982209 Some embedded messages are corrupted when they are contained in a message that is sent from an Exchange Server 2010 mailbox address
  • 982378 A delegate receives only one meeting request when someone sends a meeting request to several principals in an Exchange Server 2010 RU1 or later environment
  • 982944 The msExchVersion attribute value of a user is stamped incorrectly after you run the Enable-MailUser cmdlet to mail-enable the user
  • 983200 The .xls file as an attachment is empty when you access an Exchange Server 2010 mailbox by using OWA
  • 983631 “redirect it to people or distribution list” rule does not work on an Exchange Server 2010 mailbox address
  • 2084061 A user intermittently fails to access an Exchange Server 2010 mailbox after the mailbox is moved

The last fix is interesting because we (me and Johan) are experiencing the issue during a cross-forest migration.

Besides the Exchange 2007 SP2 RU4 of yesterday and this morning’s Exchange 2010 RTM RU3, Microsoft also released Exchange 2007 SP1 Rollup 10 (KB981407) and a security fix for Exchange 2003 SP2 (KB976702).

Both Exchange 2007 SP1 RU10 and the Exchange 2003 SP2 update fix the issue documented in security bulletin MS10-024, being a vulnerability issue in Microsoft Exchange and the Windows SMTP Service which could lead to a denial of service.

Exchange 2010 RTM Rollup 3


Microsoft released Rollup 3 for Exchange Server 2010 RTM (KB981401). This update raises Exchange 2010 version number to 14.0.694.0.

Not many hotfixes included in this rollup, but important ones, including a security fix. Here’s the list of changes included in this rollup:

  1. 981832 MS10-024: Vulnerabilities in Microsoft Exchange and Windows SMTP Service could allow denial of service
  2. 981664 RPC clients or MAPI on the Middle Tier clients may not receive responses from the mailbox server role on an Exchange 2010 server
